" I design physical optical illusions and impossible objects for museums, TV and research labs.
Featured in BBC’s Operation Ouch! Best Illusion of the Year, and international science museums".
Olivier Redon

Olivier Redon is an award-winning creator of optical illusions, recognized as a finalist in the Best Illusion of the Year competition in 2021 and 2024, with his work “Oh La La Box” acclaimed as Best Illusion by "The Sun". He has received gold medals at international art and mathematics events, including Gathering for Gardner (G4G), the Bridges Conference, and the National Museum of Mathematics Festival.
His work has been featured widely in scientific and public venues, including BBC’s Operation Ouch!, major science museums worldwide, and publications such as Double Take. His illusions are also part of the Science is Magic product line (ages 8 to adult) distributed by The Magic Factory, the world’s leading producer of magic kits, reaching audiences in 52 countries. His creations have been exhibited at institutions such as the Science and Industry
Museum in Manchester. In addition to his artistic work, Redon contributes to recreational mathematics, collaborating with Alex Bellos for The Guardian. His work has also been
recognized in academic circles: Annalisa Crannell, editor of The American Mathematical Monthly, features a mathematical analysis of three of his illusions in a recent MIT Press book, highlighting their connection to projective geometry and the intersection of art and mathematics.

"Operation Ouch! Brains, Bogies and You" was an exhibition at the Science and Industry Museum in Manchester that ran from 14 February 2025 until 4 January 2026.
Olivier Redon and Chloe Redon are featured as illusion designers for interactive exhibits in the Science and Industry Museum's Operation Ouch! Brains, Bogies and You exhibition in Manchester. Their work includes participatory sensory illusions such as the "You’ve been shrunk!" interactive, where visitors can take photos using optical illusions designed by Olivier and Chloe Redon. Other exhibits, like face-flip illusions and negative image stares, further explore brain and perception science, connecting Redon's expertise to the core of Operation Ouch!'s educational experiences in Manchester.
